Wednesday Keynote Speaker Kara Alaimo PhD.- Protecting & Empowering Ourselves On Social Media
Wednesday June 11, 2025 2:30pm - 3:30pm CDT
During this hour, Kara will address the critical things we need to know, such as why we shouldn’t compare our lives and bodies to the glamorized pictures we see on Instagram, what to do when we or someone we know is bullied online, why we shouldn’t believe everything we see online, and how to protect ourselves from dangers including catfishers and predators. She’ll also talk about how we can find healthy content and communities online and why it’s so important to seek out opportunities for offline friendships and activities. She’ll give us a script for running a rainy-day session that will be appreciated by campers (and their parents!) and for answering questions that often come up when we develop relationships with young people.

Wednesday Keynote Speaker Kara Alaimo PhD.- The Case For Putting Down Our Phones This Summer
Wednesday June 11, 2025 3:30pm - 4:30pm CDT
In a non-professorial way, social media expert Kara Alaimo, PhD will explain how we can keep away from our phones while at camp. She’ll explain why a summer without smartphones is good for all of us: we can practice the art of being fully present in our surroundings, getting comfortable with our thoughts and even experience boredom. Nixing phones will also allow us to invest more in relationships with the humans around us. She’ll explain why doing so will be good for our physical and mental health and even fun — leaving us with skills and relationships that will serve us throughout our lives.
